Unlocking Potential: Is Your Body Equipped for Health & Fitness Success?

Do you ever feel like your body is working against you?

Many of us can relate to experiences like persistent fatigue, frustrating brain fog, sleepless nights, digestive troubles, nagging cravings, and the constant battle with weight management.

I used to struggled with a lot of these. I felt helpless and frustrated.

I always thought that if I just pushed harder there would be some elusive "other side" where everything would magically improve.

There never was.

I had to learn that if I wanted my body to heal, grow, & perform at it’s best, then I needed to provide enough high quality inputs to achieve the desired output.

For far too long, I had fixated on the output and the constant "doing," and as a result, I became increasingly depleted, both mentally and physically.

In hindsight, I realize that these symptoms were my body's way of communicating with me, urging me to listen.

So, let's delve into what some helpful inputs are! These have the power to provide us with the energy, vitality, and nourishment we need.

When we prioritize these, we become better equipped to handle all the demands life throws our way and pursue the goals that are most important to us (& with much less resistance)!

  1. Sleep
7-8h of uninterrupted & high quality sleep each night is key for repair & rejuvenation. Maintaining and restoring proper circadian rhythm is SO important for our health and we do this through a consistent sleep schedule, proper sleep hygiene, and exposure to natural light around sunrise & sunset.

  2. Food
Meeting the body’s nutritional requirements is vital for proper energy balance. This includes eating nutrient dense foods - lots of protein balanced with carbs & fats, in-season fruits & vegetables, and considering a nose-to-tail approach to eating. Prioritizing regular meals throughout the day will also go a long way in keeping energy high & stress hormone levels low.

  3. Hydration

Hydrating with more than just plain water is a MUST. I love including broths, coconut water, milk, & herbal teas into my day because these include MINERALS which are necessary to truly stay hydrated on a cellular level. At least once a day I’ll add a small pinch of high quality mineral sea salt into my coconut water or regular water to help with this as well.

  4. Nature & Time Outdoors
We gain energy from nature and the Earth through exposure to natural light, grounding, fresh air, and engaging with the outdoors. This can help us greatly to rejuvenate our physical and emotional well-being, reduce stress, and enhance mental clarity. These natural elements offer us such restorative energy (at no cost, might I add)!

  5. Low Intensity Movement (Walking)
When we walk, we increase oxygen intake, reducing stress, improving circulation, and providing a much needed mental and physical break. This is becoming increasingly important as many of us tend to spend more and more time sitting in our daily lives. I love the goal of 8-10k steps on most days!

  6. Time doing NOTHING

Allocating time to do nothing is often underestimated but holds great power. I know it can feel uncomfortable at first but I urge you to lean into it and start small. Even just 5-10 minutes of distraction-free downtime each day can be incredibly rejuvenating for the nervous system (bonus if you can do this outside). This mental and physical rest differs from the passive distraction of screens or television, which we tend to favour more frequently. Time spent doing nothing is restorative because it allows the mind and body to TRULEY rest.

I encourage you to examine your daily routine and pinpoint opportunities where you can give priority to these practices. It doesn't need to be an all-or-nothing endeavour; even making small adjustments can initiate a wonderful ripple effect in your life.
